Andrew Mayor was born in Manchester, and won a postgraduate scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where he received various prizes. During his studies he sang Borilée in Rameau's Les Borèades, conducted by Roger Norrington.

At the 2002 Osterfestpiele in Salzburg Andrew was a soloist in Beethoven's Choral Fantasia at the Grossesfestspielhaus with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado. Other recent rôles include Silvio I Pagliacci for Castleward Opera, The Vicar (Albert Herring), Masetto (Don Giovanni) and Ford (Falstaff), for English Touring Opera, the Count (Le Nozze di Figaro), Rigoletto, Eugene Onegin and Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera all at the Holland Park Festival. He also covered Gunther in Ring des Nibelungen for Longborough Festival and sang Matthieu (Andrea Chenier) in the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Internationally  Andrew has taken part in a nationwide tour of the USA performing Danilo (Die lustige Witwe) for Columbia Artists and in 2006 Andrew toured throughout Europe singing Sharpless in Madama Butterfly. Other recent international engagements have occured in Kuala Lumpur (Germont, La Traviata), Penang (Escamillo, Carmen), and concerts in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and the opera house in Manaus. In 2008 Andrew sang Starveling (A Midsummer Nights Dream) in the Linbury Theatre for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden conducted by Richard Hickox,  Nabucco at the Richmond Theatre, Gianni Schicchi in the Teatro Communale Monteleone di Spoleto and the Music Master in a concert performance of Ariadne auf Naxos at the Windsor Festival.

Andrew has sung Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Edinburgh,  the Count (Le Nozze di Figaro), Prospero in Berio's Un Re In Ascolto at the Städtische Bühnen Münster and Man 1 in Harrison Birtwhistle's The IO Passion at the Konzerthaus, Berlin,  Zurga, (Les pêcheurs des perles) on tour throughout the UK, Schaunard ( La Bohème), Johann in Andrea Hölszky's Bremer Freiheit at the Konzerthaus, Berlin and recitals in Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Avignon and St Petersburg.  Most recently Andrew sang Rigoletto (Rigoletto) for Compagnia d'Opera Italiana di Milano on tour in France, Germany and Austria,  Iago (Otello) in London, the Count (Le Nozze di Figaro) on tour throughout the UK, open air performances of Rigoletto in the summer and Germont Père (La Traviata) in the Soho theatre.  Immediate plans include Belcore (L'elisir d'amore) at the Offida opera festival in Italy and further performances of Rigoletto in Surrey.
